MIGHT BE NEEDED.
A well-known comedian inflicted a new joke on his audience one night which caused a great laugh. While he was in the middle of a very important scene a man becKowed him from the wings. The comedian left the stage for a moment. When he returned his face had fallen several inches. He looked positively sad. Advancing to tbs footlights, he asked seriously, “Is there a doctor in the house ?’’ In a ll parts of the theatre the audience , anxious to hear full particulars'; of the- accident, leaned forward eagerly. Thu comedian scanned the audience with an anxious gaze until, after a moment’s hesitation, a broadshouldered, bespectacled young man stood up, ':'■■■ h- d vividly, and remarked— “l—l cm a physician.’’ Instantly the comedian’s face relaxed. “That’s right,” he exclaimed, “do not go avet. I’m just going to sing a song.”
