A Lighthouse Useless.

FOG SIGNAL FOR THE THREE KINGS. Auckland, Jan. 16. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Railways and Marine, interviewed by the Auckland Star’s Rotorua correspondent, said it had been decided to at once proceed with the erection of a light at North Cape. The Marine Department had no intention of erecting a light at Three Kings. Reminded of the Auckland shipmasters’ resolution that a light at the Three Kings was absolutely essential, Mr Millar replied that the officers of the Department bad gone thoroughly into the matter and were 0! opinion that the light would serve no good purpose and it would be useless in a fog, while in clear weather the-Kings were so high that they were plainly discernible and did not constitute a danger like low-lying, rocks. He considered that only one course of action was open, which was to establish a fog signalling apparatus find require vessels to be fitted with receivers. The Department was now negotiating with the International Signalling Company.
