LADIES’ COLUMN.

There are now so many opportunities of wearing pretty indoor frocks. The fashionable alliance of satin and rhiffinn is shown in two smart figures appearing) on this page. The first has an underdress of pink satin veiled with grey chifion, which is flecked with very small silver rings made of the new metallic drop trimming. The deep border round the edge of the tunic is of silver and gold run-net, and the deep-folded belt round the waist is of satin in the same shade as the underdress. Over the shoulders, round the neck, and at the edge of the sleeves are narrow bands of pink ribbon velvet. This is a lovely combination, and would 1 make a most elegant dress for any occasion that would not require full evening dress. The same model might be carried out in any colour becoming to the w^rer.

The second figure ' has the very latest idea emanating from Paris ; the underdress this time Is in the new tapestry brocade, woven In blue and silver after a design copied from old gobelin tapestry. The skirt is not short, neither is it narrow as some that have lately appeared. The very smart overdress takes the form of the new polonaise ; it Is made in rose coloured satin cut all in one piece, and draped at the left-hand side, where it is fastened -with two large roses. The undersleeves are of the palest blue chiffon in the shade of the blue that appears in the skirt. The frock has no other trimming save a very narrow edging of silver round the decolletage, and in the hair there is a wisp of pale blue chiffon fastened with a silver buckle at the hack. This design could be made up in plain material over a striped satin underskirt, or a nlnon or a chiffon over brocade or velvet.
