FOOTBALL.

SCHOOLS COMPETITION v.

By “ Offside ”

The match at Canvastown between the Havelock and Oarluke ■ c'toolboys was a fairly good game, but was spoilt by lack of supervision by an official of the Sub-Union, This left an opening for some unseemly “ barrack ” by senior players from Carluke ; also, several enthusiastic lady barrackers at times considerably confused the boys by their well-meant but unfortunate advice.

The Havelock boys seemed a bit shy at first, but soon got going, and two fries were scored by L. Walker and E. Buckman ; the latter also pounced on a ball that had been free-kicked behind the Canvastown posts, and a try was awarded. The chief faults of the Havelock team were failure to follow up, disinclination to tackle,’ and a habit of kicking the ball instead of trying to pass it or get through with it. Some of tne Carluke boys showed fine form," kicking and running well, but they had two many “ also started” in the team. The game ended in Havelock’s favour by 15 to 3. SUBURBAN V. CANVASTOWN. The game between Suburban combined and Canvastown was a really flue one, though the Suburban team comprised only eight boys. They were, however, full of pluck and dash, and at half-time the scores were equal—6 all. In the second spell the Canvastown pack proved too many for the few opposed to them, but even though the latter were outnumbered they put up a great fight. Three tries were scored by Canvastown in this spell, making the total on call of time 15 to 6. For the winners Stratford and Alquist played very well, and for the gallant little band froth Suburban the star players were the two Nees boys, Reaks, and Nesbit, the last-named scored both tries for his'side. It is disheartening to the Suburban lade when the Mabakipawa and Okaratnio boys do not roll up.

Next Saturduy the fixtures are Carluke and Suburban, at Havelock, and Havelock and Oanvastown, at Canvastown.
