A DWARF BOOKCASE.

This is a very pretty and easy article to be undertaken by the ama* teur carpenter. It may be 3ft. high and 3ft. wide. Any good wood iiu. thick and Ift. wide will be suitable—say yellow pine. Cut out the sides and the three 'shelves and fasten together with 2in ccrews, driving the heads well beneath the surface of the wood. The lower shelf should be about 6in. from the bottom, the others at equal in- | tervals, remembering * that 11 ins. o! : the top are-abstracted for the orria mental cornice.

The top of Ain. wood and projecting IJin. on all sides, should be screwed on next. Then nail on the band beneath the

arch work, which is IJin. wide and fin. thick, and runs along the front and two sides.

The arch work is simply mal* by - means of a ccntrebit of fin. in d'ameter, afterwards smoothing the work with glasspaper rolled around a ruler or something similar. Bui first of all gouge out the wood to tht. chflpe shown in section view. Glue and sprig on. So much for the corn>*«.

Tnc edges of the bookcase are ornamented as shown. Get a piece ol wood long enough to run from top to bottom, lln. wide and fin. thick. With your plane work it down to the section A. Then divide into squares and cut with your chisel into th< billets, or four-faced projections. The base really requires no explanation ; it is of lin. wood and its top is bevelled.

The tacking of thin wood or fabrk at the back completes the constructional work. Then all holes and defects must be filled with putty, and e last polishing with No.l glass-paper is followed by three very thin coat* of any good ivory enamel, whlcl should leave nothing to be desired.
