Whitehaven Colliery Disaster.
London, Dec. 3. Tbe verdict at the inquiry into the Whi:ehaven disaster was that it was duo to an txplosion of gas and coal- • dust combined, but there was insuffi" cient evidence to show that it was due to a defective safety lamp. The closing of the pit was rightful and expedient, as there was no possible means of reaching the entombed men.
