SHE GUESSED RIGHT.
A well-dressed lady stood hesitatingly on the edge of; ,the iparveaiienfo watching for a chance to cross to the opposite side of the street. At that moment a man's pleasant voice at her elbow inquired gallantly: "May I cross the street with you, madam ?" As she gratefully accepted, her escort grasped her firmly by the arm. In and out they threaded their way at peril to life and limb. Tho mail clearly mada no effort of any sort to avoid the passing vehicles. He merely dodged wildly about. Finally, by some miracle, the opposite kerb was reached. Furious, the woman turned a withering g»ze on her guide, and fairly hissed out the words ;
"It is no thauks to you that w«'re not both run over ! From the way you ran into danger, one would Uiink you were blind !" "I am," meekly confessed the man ; "that is why I asked if you would let me cross t"h« street with you,^
