Gladstone was in Parliament at 22 and at 21 was a Lord of the Treasury. Lord Bacon graduated at Cambridge when 16, and was called ta tho Bar at 24. Peel was in Parliament at 21, and Palmerston was Lord of the Admiralty at 23. Henry Clay was in the Senate of the United Stales at 29, sontrary to lh« Constitution. , John Hampden, after graduating at Oxford, was a student at law in the Inner Temple at 19. Gustavus Adolphus ascended the throne at 16 ; before he was 34 he was one of the great rulers of Europe. Martin Luther had become largely distinguished at 24, and at 56 had reached the topmost round of his world-wide fame. Comic* conducted a memorable campaign at 17, and at 22 lie, and Turenne also, were of the most illuss triuus men of their time. Washington was a distinguished colonel iu the army at 22, commander of the forces at 43, and President of the United States at 57. Maurice of Saxony, who died at 32 is conceded to have been one of the nrofoundest statesmen and one of the ablest generals which Christendom had seen. Xapolcon at 25 commanded the army of Italy. At 30 he was not only one of the most illustrious generals of all time, but one of the great lawgivers of the world. At 46 he saw Waterloo. The great Leo. X. was Pope at 38. Having finished his academic training he took the otbee of cardinal at IS, only twelve months younger than was Charles James Fox when he entered Parliament.
