WOES OF THE OIL KING.
Mr. J. D. Rockefeller, the Standard Oil King and reputed richest man in the world, is said to be in hiding on his New Jersey estate. He cannot be served with subpoenas there—he is wanted to give evidence at the inquiry which the Government has ordered into the working of the trusts—but he fears that he may be kidnapped and taken- into New York Slate, where the service would be valid. In thi> meantime his estate is practically surrounded by armed private police, and at night searchlights are worked incessantly. According to a Central News message, the Gil King is in a state bordering on mental collapse.
