PICTON HOSPITAL BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Picton Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last week, there being present —Messrs D’Arcy Ohaytor, Richardson, McCormick, Black, Simmonds, Bragg, Riddell, Esson, and Cullen. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. C. Ohaytor (Chairman) and W. Price, and Mr D’Arcy Chaytor was voted to the chair. The town members of the Board reported having arranged for the erecof awnings at the Hospital. The Secretary of the Wairau Hospital Board submitted a list of patients from the Picton district who had been admitted to the Blenheim institution during the past month. Nurse McCormick wrote, tendering

her resignation as a nurse at tbe Picton Hospital.—Dr Redman said Nurse McCormick was one of the best nurses who had ever been under his charge, and regretted that her resignation was rendered imperative ou account of illhealth.—On the motion of the Chairman, Nurse McCormick’s resignation was accepted with regret. The Secretary of the Havelock Cottage Hospital Committee submitted his usual monthly report. The Committee’s recommendation that Mr Brown’s tender for metalling the road to the Cottage Hospital bo accepted, was endorsed by the Board. The Town Committee reported having gone into details in connection with the proposal to connect the Hospital with the Picton Borough Council’s acetylene gas lighting system. On the motion of the Chairman, it was decided to have specifications prepared, and that tenders bo invited for carrying out the work. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Esson, that a new boundary fence be erected at the back of the Hospital grounds. Mr Bragg referred to the number of patients from the Picton district who were treated at the Blenheim Hospital, although the local institution was, in most cases, closer at hand. Those people frequently rendered the Picton Board liable for their maintenance. He considered they should be forced to pay, and that an example should bo made of them. Patients received every care and attention at the Picton Hospital, and if people choose to go elsewhere for treatment they should be compelled to pay. The remarks of Mr Bragg were endorsed by the other members of the Board. Mr Richardson suggested that the

Court; proceedings against the Native \ ox-patients be abandoned, as it would be a very expensive undertaking. Mr Esson moved that one of them be sued, and made an example of. Mr Simmonds seconded, but, on being put to the meeting, the motion was lost. Accounts amounting to £B3 19s 6d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.—Picton Press,
