Schoolmasters on Tour.— Five hundred British schoolmasters are arranging to go abroad this winter to study the methods of public education pursued in the United States and Canada. There will be plenty , for them to see, even if their investigations id. the States begin where the Mosely Commission left off. The Professors—for the party is to include University dons as well as assistant teachers in elementary schools—may possibly find reason to congratulate themselves that it was not their destiny to be born American citizens; for with few exceptions, we believe, the teaching state of a University in dhe United States is by no means pampered in the matter of stipend, Perhaps, too, they will find something to interest them at the University in the Far West described by Mr Bryce, who was informed by the pushing young President that the " Faculty ” consisted of himself and bis wife. The trip, it seems, is dependent on the willingness of the corpor- ' aliens and authorities concerned to give leave of absence to the would-be tourists, and to pay them while they are away. Whether the advantages of the project will appeal to those who are asked to provide the cost remains to be seen.
