A rather startling scientific discovery, which, if accurate, will be of vital interest to agriculture, has just come to hand. The idea lias been conceived of applying the Darwinian theory of selection to grain in the belief that a wheat could bo developed which would survive droughts in the arid regions. Selecting the best grains of experimental crops, success has been arrived at sufficient for scientific experts to become interested in the work. One of those has committed himself to the belief that the time is near when all the semi-arid regions will fie under cultivation.
