A DUNEDIN SENSATION. Dunedin, December 29. Sam Mercer, a well-known horse trainer, was arrested this afternoon on a charge of shooting with intent a man named Edward Brown. Mrs Brown, who keeps a confectionery shop, charged Mercer with enticing her daughter away. Mercer had. at the time, a young lady in his dogcart, said to be Mrs Brown's daughter. On reaching home Mercer was followed by Brown, son of the woman who accused Mercer, and on the door being opened by Mercer the men started fighting in the passage. Mercer jumped into a bedroom and obtained a small revolver—almost a toy—aud, it is alleged, shot 1 Brown in the head. . . , The police having been communicated with, arrested Mercer, Brown being removed to the hospital. On examination the injured maa‘s condition is not considered dwgjtEQW.
FATAL SHOOTING ACCIDENT. Christchurch, December 27. News has been received of a fatal accident at Gebbie’s Valley. Two young men named George Manson and Charles Pym were out shooting yesterday, when the latter shot at a rabbit, but the charge struck Manson on the head and blew half his skull off.
