MINING NEWS.

The clean up of the Waihi mine, Thames, has resulted in a return of bullion valued at £7,963. The quantity of stone treated was 2,520 tons, and the average number of stampers employed was 74. For the coming month it is expected the full number of stampers (90 head) will be fully employed, and the returns should show a considerable advance upon the above figures.

The output of the Proprietary mine, Broken Hill, N.S.W., last week was over 200,0000zs silver. A Perth telegram of Wednesday says ; —« There is great excitement on the goldfields, as the Londonderry Company has again picked up the rich shoot of gold which suddenly gave out. It was struck in 23 feet in the south main shaft, and driven into 7 feet; it reaches from the floor to the roof of the drive and glistens like a jeweller’s shop. Some of the gold is coarse, but the bulk is finer than that met with in the golden holes. Stone of enormous richness appears to extend in all directions. It is estimated that 2000 ounces have already been taken out of the new find. How the big shoot will prove it is impossible to say at present, but it is undoubtedly a continuation of the rich discovery.
