Mr H. M. Brewer, F.L.S., hag recently discovered a natural en a my of the gone, which exists in considerable quantities in the neighbourhood of Pahautanui, and is causing the death of the plant by slow but sure degrees. It is in the form of a fungus that becomes attached to the stem 'of the goree, and so surely as it settles on the stem that Hrah dies. The fungus resembles a fluffy kind of pod, and on being opened is found to contain numerous small grubs that evidently do the mischief. Its ravages are more severe in spring and autumn than at any other time, as the pods are then larger than in the hotter season of the year., It has not yet been classified. Horses are cheap in Oregon just now. 1,100 head were recently sold for £4OO.
