AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
Sydney May 22. The Committee of" New Australia " "has purchased the barque Royal Tar to convey its members, who are to form a settlement there, to Paraguay. May, 28. A large meeting of leading citizens passed resolutions affirming the desirableness of establishing cooperative village settlements to relieve ihe unemployed difficulty, and requesting the Government to grant land; also, a temporary loan or ■guarantee to meet early expenses. The total amount of Post Office frauds is £4,000. The Cabinet sat till 1.80 this morning considering a Bill to free current accounts in the suspended banks. The Bill provides for the loss of £2,000,000 worth of Treasury notes, -with which to pay current account holders half the amount of their balance. It also provides for legalising and regulating trust accounts opened with the suspended banks. It is expected that the Bill will pass both Houses to-day. Later. The Bank Bill is under consideration to-night in the Legislate assembly.
