Licensed Victuallers.

A large and influential meeting of licensed Victuallers took place at Wellington on Friday afternoon at the Club Hotel. Mr H. J. Walter was unanimously voted to the chair. After some important business in connection with trade matters had been transacted, the question of the prohibition agitation cropped up, and a general opinion was expressed that those engaged in the liquor traffic should take a dignified stand, and act only on the de* fensive to protect their interests, leaving all aggressive action to “ the well-meaning but misguided enthusiasts who are striving to establish a system of intolerable tyranny, which is repugnant to all the fair-play loving instincts of the British race. ” The meeting, which was a very enthusiastic one, closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
