The minutes of the previous meet ing were read and confirmed.

The Treasurer reported the Bank overdraft to be £345.

The Chairman observed that he thought it unfair that interest should be paid on such a large overdraft while rates were outstanding, and he wanted to know how it was that summonses had not been issued against defaulters.

The Collector replied that ill-health had prevented him taking proceedings during the past month as instructed, but he was now busy making out the list, and he intended to at once issue summonses against all in arrear irrespective of persons. The feeling of the Board was that the sooner it was done the better.

A letter was read from the Manager Golden Gate Gold-mining Company. Mahakipawa, re shaft being on road. It was resolved, That the Company be allowed to leave the shaft as it is, but to widen the road so as not to interfere with traffic. The matter as to what was necessary to be done to be left in the hands of the Board's Inspector. The application of Mr C. Nees to erect four chains of fencing to encroaeh on the road was granted subject to the condition that the fence be removed by the applicant at any time when required to do so. C. Nees applied to be put on the roll for the Eoad District, but as the «P! Ration was informal the matter was deferred till a fresh one had been made in proper form. Slaughter licenses were granted to W. hi. Simmonds and R. Anderson and renewals to Herbert Reader and W. Kennington.

The road over the hill to Mahakipawa was reported to be in a very bad state.

A discussion took place as to whether it would be advisable to put it in a proper state of repair or declare the road closed. It was thought undesirable to expend much money on the road if there was any chance of the new road being made. The Inspector estimated that it would cost £25 to make the track anything like passable. It was ultimately resolved. That it be notified that the road would be closed pending repairs until further notice.

Twq tenders had been received for clearing out drain near Mr levies' : W. Nicholas and 0, Pickering. The latter's tender had been accepted, but Mr Pickering had since declined to carry out the work, and it was resolved to call for fresh tenders.
