An Explanation.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—la your publication of last Tuesday you mentioned that I had rosigned my commission as Justice of the Peaee. As my motives for having done so were not such as you have attributed to me. will you allow me a few lines for explanation. As long as I have any strength I will not plead my age, as an excuse for neglect of duty, I have too much respect for the people of Havelock. To speak of the " bother" of doing my duty as a member of their society may I take this opportunity of expressing publicly my thanks to Mr Hawkins for the assistance which he has always given me. He has the law (and all the profits) at his finger ends. I am, &c, F. Sbvebnb. February 10, 1892.
