Mounted Rifles.
TO THE EDITOR. 'Sib, —What has become of our Mounted Rifles ? I have only seen them out on one occasion since the encampment \\ieM at Blenheim, when, I understand,' section-leaders and a corporal were appointed. I see the Canvastown section under Mr Corbett are progressing favourably, but the Havelock men appear altogether disinterested. Oa several occasions I have been informed a parade would be held, but in each case I have been disappointed. Another noticeable thing at C mvastown, the men receive their command from their officer, and act accordingly, and do not talk in the ranks to their commander. This I cannot say for the Havelock men, as all appeared to me to be officers when they last paraded. If it is the intention ot the Mounted Rifle Company to tike part in the Easter encampment proposed to be held in Nelson, I am afraid the Havelock sub-division will be far behind the ordinary drilled men. Let the newly-appointed Corporal use more discipline, and give the men in his charge to understand that they are to be drilled by him, and not by the whole corps. Trusting I will have the pleasure of seeing a regular pirade in future, and thanking you for your | valuable space,
I am, &c, Intending Member. Havelock, leb. 1, 1892.
