Mahakipawa

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tuesday, February 2. Nearly all the claims are pumped out now. The King Solomon is not yet out but expect to be dry to-morrow. They are erecting new fluming to put the water on top of the wheel, picking up the water from Neilaori and Party's tailrace. Why they have not done this long ago is one of those things " no fellah can understand." The Golden Gate Company are down twelve feet. They have only three men on the job as yet, and as the shaft is ten feet square, they are making haste very slowly, and they have just touched water. I expect when they get the pump in and get a fair start they will push things along aid make the bast of the dry vta'her.

Op the creek the old Waihi (R ish and Party's abandoned claim) is turning out p.tyable gild. Another abandoned terrace, formerly held by Brimmer and Party, is turning nut good gold. Several parties have made trips over the bill this last week or two, and it is very difficult to find the track through the growth of underscrub and thistles, and very hard work to travel on it when you do find it. Ido think that, considering the Ravenscliff Company speafc a considerable sum of money to make tbis track, which is & great benefit to pedestrians coming to and fro, the Road Board should spend a pound or two in clearing it. At the monthly meeting of the School -Committee Mr C. H Mills, M.H.R., was nominated for the School Board. The weather seems to have settled for a spell of fine, and 1 hope to have some good records to chronicle to make up for the hard times we have had lately. In the meantime there is nothing of interest to chronicle, so you will excuse me for cutting my correspondence short.
