Perihe Tutekohe, claim £49 18s. 10d., with costs, £3 12s. Wairoa.—The investigation of the Whakapunaki case occupied twenty days. The -Court was crowded yesterday to hear the decision, there being about 500 natives present, besides many Europeans. The judgment gave general satisfaction. Drunk and Disorderly.—This morning William Clarke was fined 205., in default twenty-four hours, for being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The same penalty was inflicted on him for making use of obscene language whilst drunk, Gisborne Harbor Board.—Mr. T. J. Dickson notifies that he will be a candidate at the forthcoming election of members to serve on the Gisborne Harbor Board. The ratepayers in the town will return two members, and the County the same number. Mr. A. Y. Ross.—This honorable gentleman has given notice that at the next meeting of the Parliamentary Union, Gisborne, he will ask the Government if they intend to bring down a Bill to indemnify members who voted and took their seats without being introduced to the Speaker and taking the oath, and if they intend to find a mace for the House.

Sale by Auction.—At Messrs. Graham, Pitt and Bennett’s auction mart to-day, pieces of land situate in the township of Gisborne, containing 2 roods, more or less, being sections 99 and 100 of the township, together with a dwelling house and outhouses thereon, were offered for sale and brought £5O, Messrs. Shera Bros., of Auckland, being the purchasers. The land was sold subject to two mortgages for the sums of £3OO and .£lOO respectively, and any interest due at the time of the sale on those mortgages.

Mayoralty.—Captain Porter who has on several occasions held the office of Mayor of Gisborne, retires at the close of the present term in November, and has no intention of seeking re-election. A requisition is in course of signature asking Mr. C. A. DeLautour to permit himself to be nominated. We understand Mr. DeLautour was somewhat undecided as to the reply he should give to the requisitionists, not knowing whether or not it was the present Mayor’s intention to be nominated for the ensuing twelve months. That point, however, is now set at rest by His Worship having signed to-day the requisition inviting Mr. DeLautour to stand. The requisition is being largely signed, and little doubt exists as to Mr. DeLautour being returned.
