Elizabeth Archer, a married woman, suffering from religious mania, has been committed to the asylum, She had been a regular attendant at the Salvation Army meetings, and her insanity is of the most violent character—suicidal and homicidal. A shocking murder was committed yesterday at the Ormondville settlement, in the Seventy-Mile Bush, on the Napier-Woodville Railway. A man named Edwards had been on the spree, and in delirium cut the throats of his wife and four children, and afterwards attempted to cut his own, but only inflicted a slight wound. Edwards was arrested this morning and conveyed to the Waipawa County Hospital, where the wounds were dressed. He was then taken back to Ormondville for the inquest, which was to be held to-day. Edwards was a platelayer, and addicted to drink. He had been twice before the R.M. Court charged with lunacy brought on by excessive drinking, and had been discharged from the asylum on medical certificates. Dunedin, Feb. 11. At a creditors’ meeting the Official Assignee said that a great deal of trouble had arisen through a misunderstanding as to the new Act. Fresh forms were necessary. There were two separate forms, one for a firm or company, and the other for an individual creditor. It would save a great deal of trouble if people would supply themselves with thr proper forms. There is at present sitting at the Supreme Court a commission for taking evidence in the case of G. M. Bell v. Joseph Clarke, involving over £lll,OOO. The action has reference to the sale to the Agricultural Co. of the Waimea Plains estate, Auckland, Feb. 11, The Education Board has appointed a Committee to consider the financial position. The Board’s account is now £4,000 overdrawn. The residence of Mrs. Butler, Kauri Mountain, Wangarei, has been burnt. It was was insured for £2OO in the National. Mr. J. C. Firth’s attempt to import Bumble bees has been again unsuccessful, On the boxes being opened at Matamata they were all dead but two, which appeared healthy and flew away. He has determined to send for a fresh importation by the mail. Herr Carls Schmidt has received the red cross of Belgium and the white cross of Italy, in recognition of his. ability as a composer and services in cause of the science of music.

He was observed to cross a paddock opposite his house, instead of taking the road to the store, but nothing was thought of it at the time, until his continued absence gave cause for alarm, The elections for the Harbor Board representatives took place to-day, For the Hutt County Council and Chamber of Commerce respectively Messrs, Lancaster and Nathan were reappointed, For the representation of the shipping interest, Captain Rose and Mr, T, K. Macdonald were nominated, The former gentleman was re-elected by a majority of five to one, For the City representation there were five candidates. The result is not yet known. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of W. C. McDermott, a clerk in the Government Insurance Department. He is charged with embezzling £4O by falsifying the books.
