RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COURT.
(Before W. K. Nesbitt, Esq., (R.M.) Regina v. Byrne. Defendant was fined one pound and costs for furious riding through the township. Wyllie v. Burgess. Assault and obscene language. Kate Wyllie, the plaintiff, deposed to the defendant putting his arm round her waist, and otherwise behaving in a very ruffian-like manner towards her in a public place. James Wyllie corroborated the fact of the assault, and gave the Court a specimen of the language used by the defendant, which it is very mild to call “ obscene,” J. D. Mackey and Frederick Goldsmith for the defence denied the using of bad language by the defendant, but swore that Mr. 'Wyllie called him (the defendant) a b y scoundrel. Defendant ordered to pay a fine of £5, or one month’s imprisonment. McCall v. Sorry. Claim £l7 10s. for wages. Defendant disputed the claim, and proved to having paid plaintiff £4 to clear out, as he was not a good tradesman. Judgment for defendant with costs. Holloway v. Eru Moanaiiia. Claim for horse or £9 its value. Judgment for defendant with costs. Wyllie v. Paorakate. Plaintiff sued for £lO damages sustained by defendant having illegally interfered with him while erecting a building on his land at Pakirikiri. Judgment for £5 with costs. Wyllie v. Mere Mahanga and Another.
Damages £lO. This case is similar to the last, and judgment recorded £5. Poynter v. Riperata Kahutia. Claim £57 Ils. 6d., being amount of assessment due by def endant and others to the Road Board. Mr. Cuff, who appeared for the defendant, pointed out to the Court that there were 40 or 50 others, co-grantees, with her in the land, and that she could not be held liable for the whole amount. Nonsuited. Read v. Panapa Waihopi. Debt £9B 3s. 2d. Judgment for plaintiff with costs.
