TO STAND THIS SEASON, THE PURE BRED CLYDESDALE ENTIRE HORSE EARL DERBY Wi l travel this season to Ormond and Kaiteratahi on each Tuesday, Patutahi and Te Arai each Thursday, Gisborne and Makaraka each Saturday ; the remainder of week at his etables, Waerenga-a-hika. PEDIGREE: DEEBY was bred by Messrs H. and Waikato. He took first prize IB Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Show, 1884. He is a dappled bay stands over 16| hands high, with large and well developed muscle ; has good and a docile temper, and is a sure foal His fire, the famous horse Lord was got by Champion of Scotland, who HHned the Highland Society’s first prize at TKinburgh, and three first prizes as a yearling, before leaving Scotland ; also, for three consecutive years the champion horse of Victoria. His gg sire, Lord Derby, gained prizes at Johnsen, Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Glasgow and Maryhill Shows; ggg sire Kilbirnie Champion, gggg sire Old Prince, ggggf sire Clyde, all first prize-takers at Higland Ssciety’s Shows. Lord Derby’s dam, Princess Maud the Sixth, gained seven first prizes at Kyneton and Daylesford. Her sire Prince Charlie gained first prize at Highland Society’s Show, 1857, and first prize at Port Philip Farmers Society’s Show, thereby gaining the £5O gold cup. g dam Princess Maud the Second gained many prizes at Port Philip and National Society’s Shows. Her sire Sir Colin Campbell gained first prize at Highland Society’s Shows. gg Princess Maud the First gained first prize at Highland Society’s Show, 1856, and has gained many first prizes m Victoria, ggg dam Mary Maud, whose descendants are still the most prominent and successful prize-takers in Scotland. Earl Derby’s dam, Jessie Burns, by Bob Burns (imported), dam Darling, by Redmond (imported). Darling’s dam (imported). Bob Burns by Victor; dam Dandy, by Byron, Victor’s sire Farmer was sire to the famous ' Prince Charlie. Jessie Burns was awarded (as a one year old) second prize at Smeaton, Springhill, and Ballarock Agricultural Association’s Grand Annual Exhibitions held

November 14th and 15lh, 1872. She was also awarded (when two years old) the first prize at the Glendarnel, Beckworth, Clunes, Elinton, and Glenower Agricultural Society’s Exhibition held at Clunes, Victoria, November 7ih, 1873. Pastoral and Agricultural News’ Report. In its report on the Auckland Agricultural Show of 1884, the above journal says “ In draught stock there was a good show including a total of 45 entries. For the best entire the N.Z. Stud Company’s Loch Fergus took first prize, and Mr A. Bell’s Earl Derby second. Best entire (colonial breed), Mr A. Bell’s Earl Derby first prize, and Mr Lamb’s Sir Colin, second.” Earl Derby also carried off second honors at our local show. Veterinary Surgeons Certificate : Auckland, Sept. 24th, 1885. “ I hereby certify that I have this day examined a brown horse, Earl Derby, the property of Mr A. Bell, and find the same in good health, and perfectly sound. E. D. Halstead, Veterinary Surgeon.” Tbbms :—Single Mares, £3 3s ; Guarantee Foal, £4 10s.
