PATUTAHI QUARRY RESERVE.
(To tJjtf Editor of the P.B. Independent.) SiR:-—Allow me through your paper to call public attention to the manner in which D. Malone is cutting down the bush on the Quarry Reserve, Patutahi. Whilst the ratepayers of the district are prohibited from cutting a stick for fencing or otherwise, this man is at full liberty to cut and cart away what timber he thinks fit to sell or otherwise if he be so inclined. Whether he has authority from the Waste Lands Board, or not, I am not prepared to say. Certainly the County Council have not got the Reserve vested in them as yet. Then who gives this non-rate-payer of this district permission to ruthlessly denude the public estate of some of the best of the timber, such as Kaika, &c., &c. Trusting iMr Editor you will give publicity to the above.—l am &c., Ratepayer. Patutahi, Dec. 9, 1885.
