The English Elections.
THE LIBERALS VICTORIOUS. (own correspondent.) London, November 26. Mr John Hennicker Heaton and Mr Howard Vincent have been elected. The Hon. Lyulph Stanley and Mr Kynaston Cross have been defeated. For the City of London electorates (one member) the Right Hor, J. G. Hubbard and. Aiderman Fowler'each polled the same number of votes, viz., 91. The Conservative candidates have been generally successful in the London suburban electorates. In the provinces Liberals have been elected for York, Salisbury, Boston, and Edenborough, while Conservatives have been successful at Bolton, Winchester, Norwich, Nuneaton, and Hull. At Leeds, out of five seats, the returns give three Conservatives, while for Sheffield the following five members have been returned:— Messrs Coleridge, Mundella, Howard Vincent, Ashmead Bartlett, and Stuart Wortley. Mr Gladstone has been reelected for Midlothian, and Sir Lyon
Playfair for Edinburgh and St. Andrew’ Universities. November 27. According to the latest returns the Conservatives have returned m members and the Liberals 110. For Manchester five Conservatives and one Liberal have been returned, Sir James Ferguson securing one of the seats. For the Marylebone district two Conservative members have been returned, including Lord Charles Beresford.. The Conservative party have also secured victories at Westminster, Hamstead, Greenwich, Oxford, and Wakefield. Mr Howard Spensley, late of Victoria, has been elected for Finsbury, the other two seats being gained by Conservatives. The Liberals have been successful at Halifax, Chester, and Rochdale, Mr Potter being re-elected for the latter place. The old members have been reelected for Middlesbro’, West Bromwich, and Falmouth, the Right Hon. G. A. F. Cavendish-Bentinck being defeated at the latter place. Sir Thomas Brassey has been re-elected for Hastings, and Mr Macarthur for Leicester. November 29. The election returns now give 155 Conservatives and 167 Liberals. Mr Gladstone and Lord Hartington were elected by large majorities. Parnell and Healy were returned among the members for Cork. At Glasgow the whole seven seats were gained by Liberals.
