CABLE NEWS. (own correspondent.) London, November 10. It is rumored that owing to the heavy dram caused by the despatch of troops for service in Egypt and India, it has been decided by the War Office to augment the British Army by ten battalions. Mr Gladstone commenced his Midlothian campaign by addressing a crowded meeting of his constituents at Edinburgh last night. He was greeted with the utmost enthusiasm. In the course of his address he exhorted the Liberal party to remain united, and confront boldly the demands made for the separation of Ireland from the United Kingdom.
Mr G. S. Parnell, while addressing a public meeting in Liverpool last night, made an appeal to Mr Gladstone to submit to the electors some scheme for the Government of Ire and, which should be combined with the maintenance and unity of the Empire. November 11. Professor Strong, in the “ Pall Mall Gazette,” advocates that the several Agents-General of the colonies should be ex officio members of the House of Commons. News has been received that the Peninsular and Oriental Co.’s steamer Indus, 3062 tons, has been totally wrecked at Trincomalee, on the coast of Ceylon No lives were lost, the passengers and crew succeeding in getting ashore. The mails also were saved. Arrangements have been made by which the Australian mails will not be delayed. Rangoon, Nov. 12. King Theebaw has issued a proclamation announcing his determination to exterminate the British, and Burmese forces are blockading the river Irrawady so as to prevent the ascent of the British troops to Mandalay. Constantinople, Nov. 12. The members of the Conference are in unison on the principle of restoring the status quo in Eastern Roumelia, but differ as to the means to attain that end.
