INTERPROVINCIAL.
(own correspondent.) Auckland, Friday. News has been received from Fiji of a terribly tragedy that has occurred at Apia, Samoa. A French trader there named St. Foy and his native wife were found murdered. Several bags of gold and silver belonging to St. Foy were subsequently found in possession of a native named Cholura, and the latter was apprehended. There was not much evidence against the prisoner, but he settled the verdict by hanging himself in gaol. The affair caused a great sensation throughout the Islands. Ata meeting of ship ownersand others interested in shipping business, held yesterday, resolutions were passed inviting all ship owners in New Zealand and Australia to unite in opposing undue demands of Union men, to the extent of laying up their vessels. A committee was appointed to communicate with ship owners with a view of carrying out the object of the resolutions. Wellington, Friday. The Government have received infor mation of a new find of gold in the Riverton district, but its extent is not yet known.
