WAIMATA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board took place yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs Coleman (in the Chair), Trimmer Gannon and Grey. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr O'Neil, and others, calling the Board’s attention to the state of the drain near section 41, Hapara. Mr Gannon moved and Mr Gray seconded " That Mr O’Ryan be engaged to take the levels, and give an estimate of the cost of the work.” According to a previous arrangement Mr Warren furnished an estimate for the college Street Bridge, which amounted to £2l. It was decided to write to the Poverty Bay Road Board, and ask them to contribute one-half, and if they agreed to do so, to call for tenders, but if not, then to call for tenders for necessary repairs to the old structure. Division of ihe County. Mr Gannon proposed that Mr Warren be authorised to sign the petition for the division of the County on behalf of the Road Board. Mr Gray objected, as the matter was one affectingindividualratepayers alone, and he did not think that Mr Warren should be placed in a false position. Mr Gannon pointed out that if the vote was not recorded in favor of the movement, it would count against it, and that would not be right, as the majority of the Board was distinctly in favor of the movement. Mr Trimmer then seconded, and the motion was carried, Mr Grey only dissenting. Payments.
Mr Coleman proposed that Mr J. Warren be awarded £2 2s for a well executed map of the Riding.—Carried. Tenders for Levelling. Mr Trimmer offered 30s towards levelling the sand hills in Ballance Street. It was resolved that tenders be called for the work. Borough Rates. It was resolved towrite to the Borough Council asking the Borough to pay over to the Board the rates collected by the Borough for the two chain adjoining the river, as the Board had to maintain all the roads within that area.
