At a meeting of lawn tennis players yesterday, it was decided to hold a tournament, open to all comers, in Finden Park, near Napier, the three last days of December. A good prize list will be drawn up, and single, double, and other matches will be played. Wanganui. Friday. In the Supreme Court on Wednesday Cross, charged with embezzlement, was acquitted. The Hon. Robert Pharazyn, M L.C., who was bound over to appear as a witness in Cross’ case, not being present, Mr Shaw, counsel for the defence, drew the attention of the Chief Justice, and applied that Pharazyn's recognisances be escheated as he had not forwarded the necessary certificate of exemption. The Chief Justice said he would consider the matter.

A Committee of tne Education Board on ventilation, recommended that no school in town should receive more than 750 pupils, and outside not more than 500, and that the minimum allowance of superficial space, 12 square feet; and cubic space, 200 cubic feet.

At an adjourned meeting of Neill Bros.’ creditors it was agreed to assign the estate to three trustees. G. L. Denniston, Law, and Bartleyman were elected. In the event of an assignment not being completed the three gentlemen named are to act as supervisors.
