LINGARD’S DIORAMA.

A very good house greeted the opening of Lingard’s Diorama of Scotland and the Soudan war in McFarlane’s Hall, on Tuesday evening. The entertainment proved quite worthy of the high elogiums which have been so freely accorded it on all hands. Mr McAndrew proved himself the ideal of a really humourous lecturer, who in addition to many other qualifications is possesed of a powerful and deep voice. His amusing anecdotes and laughable songs fairly convulsed the audience and he was repeatedly encored. Madame and Mr Hayward sang several selections in a very finished and pleasing manner, the most successful solo being “ Home, sweet home,” which was rendered most feelingly, and warmly applauded, whilst the music rendered by the concert company behind the scenes had a most pleasing effect. The latter part of the diorama showing several scenes from the Soudan War did not possess the merits of the Scottish scenes, although they seemed to amuse some people. Last night there was again a good and appreciative audience, and a slight defect in the gas arrangements having been remedied the fine pictures were seen to their full advantage. Madame Lingard presided at the pianoforte, and rendered some well executed and appropriate music. There will be a special entertainment to-night under the special patronage of His Worship the Mayor, and a matinee for the school children on Friday afternoon.
