A heavy south-west gale, and rain, set in last night, and the morning broke without signs ot clearing. Mr McKerrow and party, who had camped at the foot of Otahio, proceeded to the top, and fixed their instruments amidst driving snow and hail. Just before totality the sky cleared, and all phenomena was fairly visible. One photograph was taken before totality, three during, and one after. Corona was visible for fully a minue, encircling a ring ot light radiating to a distanc of about in diameter. The sun was of a pale white color like an electric light, and of a uniform width, except at the sun’s equator, where it slightly protruded, and was evidently greater in extent, but irom the exterior of the light was invisible, the darkness was scarcely noticeable owing to the heavy clouds hanging about the photographs, which form a most important result of the expedition.
