(OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Napier, Wednesday. The Annual Meeting of St. John’s Parish last night was well attended. The Incumbent, the Rev. de Berdt Hovell, presided. The balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year to be £2,255 and the expenditure to be Z Wellington, Wednesday. A fire broke out in Henn and Hansen’s turnery and wood ware workshop, in Willis street, at 9 o’clock last night. The place was completely gutted. The loss is estimated to be about £5OO. The property was uninsured. Auckland, Wednesday. Mrs Wakeham, who was injured with an axe through a squabble with her husband, is likely to -recover. The husband has been remanded. Mrs Bailey, of Parnell, was accidentally poisoned yesterday. She took carbolic acid by mistake while under the influence of liquor.
Christchurch, Wednesday. Yesterday the Protection Association and the Selwyn County Council passed resolutions in favor of the continuance of the ’Frisco Service, and of establishing a line of steamers between New Zealand and Queensland.
