(own correspondent.) Napier, Friday. The football match to-morrow with the Gisborne team is creating considerable interest here. There is a large attendance of the public expected. Wellington, Friday. Yesterday afternoon Mr McAndrew presented a petition from Sir Julius Vogel setting forth his services in connection with raising loans and inscribing stock, and praying the House to grant such relief as it thinks fit. Mr Macandrew said that in view of Sir Julius Vogel’s position it had been thought for the present that matters might be left in abeyance. From Vogel’s state of health was considerd by his friends in the interest of his family, that his evidence shouldbe taken and placed on record without any undue--delay. The rumor current the last day or two, to the effect that Sir J. Vogel was likely to assume the head of the Government Insurance Association, is quite without foundation. Dunedin, Friday. A stabbing affray occurred yesterday between two men working on the new road to the Heads. The men were quarrelling over some tools, when one named Newman drew a knife and stabbed the other named Edwin Stallard in the abdomen. The wound is about an inch and a half deep, but is not considered dangerous. Newman was arrested by some men on the defence works, and Stallard was taken to the hospital.
