SPORTING.
A sculling match for £lOO took place between Matthewson and Messenger on the Paramatta, Sydney, on Saturday last, resulting in a victory for the former. The Musket —Locket colt Thunderbolt has been purchased by the Hon. Mr. Robinson, and shipped to Sydney. If properly handled this colt will show his heels to a few of the Australian cracks.
The weights for the New Zealand Cup of 1885 are out. Tasman tops the list with 9st 121 b. 165 nominations have been received for the Melbourne Cup The weights are due on the 27th inst
The Auckland R.C. Steeplechase Meeting take* place to-day. The owner of Lord Wilton won £3OOO by his victory in the Adelaide Cup. The horse started at odds of 8 to I.
The Melbourne Sportsman states that Welcome Jack is to be offered for sale on the 14th inst.
The English Derby, run on Wednesday last, was won by Melton, with Paradox second, and Royal Hampton third. The racehorses Romeo and The Moor proceeded to Napier last night. The former takes part in the Steeplechase to be run this month.
