This being the first issue of our second quarter we take the opportunity of thanking our friends and supporters for their liberal patronage and assure them that no endeavour on our part shall be wanting to make this journal a true, conscientious, and faithful exponent of all matters appertaining to the welfare and progress of the people. In spite of the strenuous efforts which have been made by the unprincipled “ring,” which, like a huge octopus, has its tenticles spread in every direction in order to drag down any unwary and unsuspecting individual who attempts to walk uprightly and alone, we have obtained such a firm and solid footing with the public as to render it imperative on our part to make a further effort to increase our sphere of usefulness by appearing at more frequent intervals.' Should we be enabled to perfect our arrangements we shall shortly appear as a tri-weekly, which, we trust, will meet the requirements of a large class of our business friends. In the mean time we shall, as hitherto, continue faithful and true to those principles of candour and open dealing which we have taken for our motto, and which have met with such ready response from those in whose interest we labor.
