Whilst we deem it but necessary to announce that the Hospital is at present in urgent need of funds to cause that generous response which has always been shown by the Gisborne public where any charitable object was concerned, yet we must venture in all honesty of purpose, to point to the enormous drug bill which ever and anon, like a gigantic and insatiable leech, keeps sucking the lifes blood of the institution and leaving, what ought to be a thriving and robust institution, weak and decrepid. Although very much has been done by the present hard working and thorough going committee in the direction of conserving the interests and increasing the usefulnessof our Hospital, yet we venture to think that the above matter demands thuit
further serious attention. But however this may be, there can be little doubt but what a speedy response will follow the appeal which has been made, and we feel assured that the public will not allow want of means to restrict the usefulness of an institution w'hich, of all others, is a monument to our civilisation and an adornment to our sympathy and charity.
