OBITUARY
ME. PETER NEILSON
The death occurred to-.day of Mr. Peter Neilson, an ex-serviceman who had resided in Gisborne for some years.
Mr. Neilson left New Zealand with the main body of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, and served for some time during the war. He is survived by two young children, a daughter, Joan, a pupil at the Gisborne High School, and a younger son, who is at school in Wellington.
The interment will take place at the Taruheru cemetery to-morrow, following a short service at Cochrane's private chapel, Williams street, at 1.45 p.m.
DEATH AT 96 YEARS One of the first white children born in Wellington, and a resident of Auckland for the past 35 years, Mrs. Louisa Rebecca Moore, Ponsonby, has died at the age of 96. Mrs. Moore’s father, Mr. James Dodds, had a farm which extended over what is now Kilbirnie. A grandfather, Mr. John Howe, also farmed in Wellington, in the locality _of the present Basin Reserve. Following her marriage in the Wesleyan Church, Taranaki street, Mrs. Moore and her
cusband went to Canterbury, living first at . Lyttelton and later at Christchurch. They established the first shop and post office at Coalgate.
A member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union when it was first established in New Zealand, Mrs. Moore was an active member of the organisation for many years..
The death occurred in Chelsea on May 21 of Mrs. Weston-Campbell, formerly Miss Jessie Weston, of Auckland, one of the earliest women journalists and one of the best known i'n London. She began writing 35 years ago under the name “C de Thierry.” She travelled extensively, visiting New Zealand and South Africa several times.
Mr. James Maxwell Young, one of the oldest pioneers of North Auckland, lias died, aged 84 years.
