AIRSHIP PIONEER DEAD
DR. ALEXANDER BARTON FIRST AIRMAIL CARRIER (Reed. April 22, 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 21. The death of Dr. Alexander Barton has occurred. He was 78 years of age. He was the designer of England's first airship in 1903 and the world's first hydroplane in 1913. He was the first carrier of airmail by balloon to France in 1902, the flight being part of the celebrations of 'the coronation of King Edward VII.
