Rotary Valves
TT is reported from England that two leading firms in the motor car and aviation industries are displaying keen interest in the Australiandesigned McLaren rotary valve engine. It is stated that both firms are so impressed with the possibility of the design that they have offered Mr. financial and practical assistance in further developing . his invention with a view to its eventual adoption fcr both aviation and motor car work.
Some time ago, a most successful demonstration was given in Adelaide of a light car converted to this design, the car showing an important improvement in speed and economy. It is generally believed abroad that the day of the rather unmechanical poppet valve is passing, it only wanting the invention of a really, good rotary or sleeve valve for it to be relegated completely to the past.
