FUTURE OF DOMINION
ECONOMIC POSITION “DISTURBING & CRITICAL” (Special to ’.ho Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. “New Zealand is and always will be a farming country,” said the M.P. for Oroua, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, in a speech in Rongotea. “Is the farmer to be sacrificed on the altar of socialistic prodigality?” he asked. Were the real, though hidden, sentiments of the Government: “Why should we worry- about the financial difficulties or the restricted quotas imposed on farmers or business men ks long as we can squeeze enough out of ithem to keep our supporters quiet?” Despite New Zealand’s manynatural advantages, and also of the 'act that we had had three unusually prosperous years, said Mr. Cobbe, we were to-day facing a more disturbing ind critical economic position than any previously experienced by any person living in New Zealand.
