Borough Water Supply

Sir,—Please allow me to bring once more before your readers and our City Fathers the serious problem facing us in regard to our water supply. Contrary to the statements made at the last council meeting and also by our local health inspector as to there -being no typhoid in the Borough of Gisborne, we find there are cases in the Cook Hospital, and “Borough Resident” wirotfc in last Friday’s issue and told us of his own daughter who was in hospital with para-typhoid. I would just take this opportunity of asking if you could tell me whether I Would have any claim against the Mayor or councillors if any of my family were stricken with typhoid, or paratyphoid, or any other malady, and it. could be proved conclusively that it was the fault of the awful stuff called water coming through borbugh supply. I would also appeal to every parent in Gisborne to make some sort of effort to hove this question settled for the benefit of all. Do not wait fill the horse is out to shut the stab'e door. Is there not one of our public men who will call a meeting to discuss ways and means of forcing the council’s hand in this matter? We are told that there is an abundance of pure water to be got from at least

two or three sources, but in spite of the promises made at the last election by Mr. Colerrian and the Labour candidates that the water question would be gone into as soon as they were in power, they seem to be taking things pretty quietly. The time has come and gone when the Government would have helped considerably with the labour costs out of the unemployment funds for a water supply and still our council friends sleep on, and as far as onecan see will only awake to their responsibility when lives are thrown away through the carelessness of those who we have elected to watch our interests. May this feeble efTor awake in the hearts of our mothers and fathers a desire to see justice done, and to secure for Gisborne a water supply that is not contaminated with filth and slush and chemicals such as the water we are asked to drink and give to our children at the present time. THIRSTY CITIZEN.
