FAREWELL SOCIAL MU. AND MIIS. •(. OR EAVES (Hfii-ftld Correspomlont.) A social of widespread interest was held in the Matawai Hall last Friday to farewell Mr. and Mrs. J. Greaves, who after 15 years in the district are retiring to reside at Makaraka. The residents of Rakauroa were the organisers of this friendly gathering. During the evening a presentation was made ,by Mrs. 'Pritchard, who spoke o£ the kindliness and unfailing hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Greaves, which had so endeared them that they would be sadly missed in both Rakauroa and Matawai. She asked them to accept a cheque, which was to buy two easy chairs for their new home. Vera Beaufoy then presented Mrs. Greaves with a beautiful bouquet of pink and mauve asters. Mr. Greaves suitably replied. Those present included Mesdames VV. Davidson, Pritchard, T. A. Redpath,. Dick Beaufoy, Ralph. Beaufoy, A. H. Harris, T. J. Foster, G. R. Smart, R. B. Baird, S. G. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. G. Tucker entertained a number of the small friends of their eldest daughter, Rue, to celebrate her seventh birthday. Games were played on the lawn and the happy gathering partook of a delightful tea, at which a birthday cake with seven candles had pride of place. The young people gathered to wish Rae a happy birthday were Lisiley jmd. Ray TrafTord, Dot and Dulcie Taylor, Judy Mazengarb, Marie Nevcrman, Helen Mortleman, Joyce Korte, Ann and Althea Bulst, Kathleen, Judy and Denise Grant, Nancy Robb, Lyall Stewart, Silvia Childs, Joy and Moureen Thomas, Moureen and Margaret Pederson, Lily David, Hazel McDonald, Lorna Morjleman, Peter Mortleman, John Hustler, Richard Bulst and Billie Thomas.

The Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union met in the institute room on Saturday afternoon, when plans were made to hold the annual meeting on April 13. A harvest thanksgiving service was held on Sunday morning. The large quantity of fruit and vegetables received will be presented to the I-leni Materoa Children’s Home. The Rev. J. D. G. I-lodgson preached an inspiring sermon on thankfulness' for the many comforts of the present life of the ordinary individual, showing that so many things that one took as a matter of course were unheard of 300 years ago.

Mrs. A. E. Gibson left by service car on Monday for Auckland cn route to England, via Suez. She is proceeding to Sydney by the Wanganella.
