WAIROA'S 1939 CARNIVAL SWIMMING HATH FUND TOTAL OF <J26!) IN IIASD (Special to tho Hor.ild.) WAIROA, this day. The profit from Wairoa's 1939 carnival was £99 10s Id and the total takings during the week's celebrations were approximately £330. This fact was disclosed when the balance sheet was presented at a meeting of the Wairoa Carnival Committee, Mr. G. Powell presiding. The expenses during the festivities were very heavy owing to the amusement committee's effort to get the public to patronise the carnival to the full, and to provide the best entertainment and attractions with a view :o getting the public interested in the centennial celebrations. A total of £SO depreciation from the plant was written off and at present the amount held by the carnival committee towards the swimming bath fund was £269 3s lid. The amount collected for side-show-space and lighting during this year's carnival was £157 15s, of which the Wairoa Borough Council -received £lO9 6s 3d, leaving the balance for the carnival committee £4B 8s 9d. Proceeds from the entertainments totalled £124 10s Gd, less the amount for hire of hall, orchestra and sundry expenses, £ll9 5s 6d, leaving a balance of £5 ss. The proceeds from the side-show games realised £ 141 0s 9d, while 'the amount paid out in prizes and sundry expenses was £ll3 19s 6d, leaving a balance of £27 Is 3d. Donations totalled £lB 15s Id.
