FARMERS' UNION PROTEST
Unless relief was forthcoming the> would be forced to cut out their telephones, said some speakers at a meeting of the Wairarapa provincial executive of the Farmers' Union, when the action of the P. and T. Department ,n removing concessions granted in iswi to country telephone users and makin further rental increases was criticised. Mr J. Andrew said that in his district the annual cost of a telephone had Sen from £lO 18s to £lB 13s4d Las year he had paid £ls 17s 6d and this year he was expected to pay £2, 10s. \ motion was passed protesting strongly against the removal of concessions and the increased costs of rural telephones. A committee was set up to deal with the subject, and it will be referred to Farmers' Union headquarters for national action.
