CHALLENGE REFUSED TENNIS OPPORTUNITIES The refusal of Henry Cotton to entertain a challenge of £SOO from .lobby Locke for a golf match over 72 holes has brought much criticism upon the famous English player. Cotton's reply to a cable message from Capetown was that he was unable t& consider such a match at present. Ic is understood that the icason for the refusal is that Locke is not a member of the Professional Golfers' Association. An English writer points out that Locke has, four years to wait for membership of that particular body and that there is no excuse for Cotton not accepting the South African's challenge. • * * • World opportunities at tennis will come the way this year of Miss May Hardcastle, the likeable Queensland girl who visited New Zealand with Miss Thelma Rice at New Year holiday time and easily won the New Zealand singles title. She is to be sent to Wimbledon by the Queensland .Association in company with. Mrs. V. Westacott, a veteran who unexpectedly won the Australian ladies' title in January. Miss Hardcastle was a semi-finalist in the national tournament.
