TRENTHAM OFFERING TOP PRICE 575 GNS. MR. ROWAN BUYS THREE Before the sale of English and French mares at Trentham on Saturday morning, the auctioneers, Wright, Stephenson anc! Company, Limited, announced that the French-bred stallion, Lang Bian, to whom the mares had been mated in England, had been sold to Mr. Frank Ormond, and would shortly be shipped out to join Bulanshar at the Karumu Stud, near Hastings. Lang Bian is by the Ascot Gold Cup winner, Massine, who in 1936 headed the list of French sires, and on the dam’s side descends from Baroness La Fleche, the granddam ol Beau Pore. The lop price for the imported mares was 575gn5., paid by Sir James Gunson, Auckland, for the Felstead mare, Florilege, whose dam is a halfsister to Artist’s Proof, the winner of £7837 in stakes. Mr. Fletcher, Auckland, secured Medusa for 500gns. The Wairarapa breeders, Messrs. A. and J. Gray, Masterton, bought Ravinella for 475gns. The French mare, Flying Star 11, realised 500gns., being bought by Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, as agents. Miss Pippin, whost granddam was a sister to tho famous stayer, The White Knight, dual winner of the Ascot Gold Cup, was purchased for The Grange Stud by Mr. M. Grogan, at 340gns. On account of Mr. L.
