HUNGARIAN AIMS

MOBILISED FORCES bigger than needed RUTHENIAN PACIFICATION OBJECTIVES ATTAINED THANKS OF PREMIER (Reed. Mar. 21, 12 noon.) LONDON, Mar. 20. Reports of increased military activity in Hungary, including the calling up of reservists, many of whom have been sent to the Rumanian frontier, are regarded with misgiving in London. It is considered that Germany might incite Hungary to attempt to regain the Hungarian minority area from Rumania and then Germany might attack Rumania on the grounds of giving necessary help to Hungary The Budapest correspondent of The Times says it is estimated that Hungary has mobilised 400,000 men for which the pacification of Ruthenia is an inadequate excuse. The Hungarian Legation in Paris, however, denies the concentration of Hungarian troops on the Rumanian frontier. The Legation adds that some men were called up to reinforce the regiments sent to occupy Ruthenia. It is officially stated in Budapest that the Hungarian troops have attained all the Ruthenian objectives. An Independent Cable Service message from Prague says it is reported that German troops occupied tne western area of Slovakia, but have not yet penetrated the snow-covered Tatra mountains leading to the cast. Slovak Border Crossed Hungarians crossed the Slovak frontier at a few points. Hunganan troops are still pouring into Ruthenia. Many civilians are being called up. The Rome correspondent of The Times reports that the Hungarian Prime Minister, Count Telelu, and the Foreign Minister, M. Czaky, warmly thanked Signor Mus.tolim and the Italian Foreign Minister Count Ciano, for the early realisation o Hungary’s just claims and assistance prior to the occupation of Ruthenia. A Berlin message states that Count Teleki telegraphed to the Foreign Minister, Herr von Ribbentrop, thanking him for the understanding shown concerning Hungary s claims and co-operation and in repairing Injustice. He added that in furthei steps had been taken in tis interests of the peaceful existence together of the Central European people. A Belgrade message states that the Ruthenian Premier, M. Volosin, ana other rormer members of his Government have arrived there. It is believed they are going to Berlin.

Bucharest states that it is reported from the frontier that 35 Ruthenian Sijguard chiefs were executed in two days. Many others were placed under arrest.
