LIGHTING SHORT CIRCUIT

LIMITED EXPRESS COACH DEPARTURE DELAYED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Damage to an electric lighting dynamo under a first-class carriage was responsible for 38 minutes’ delay in the departure of the Limited express from Wellington to Auckland last night. A few minutes before the train was scheduled to leave, a short circuit developed in the dynamo. Flames burst from the equipment but were quickly suppressed with an extinguisher. The passengers left the carriage, later removing their luggage. The lighting system was put out of working order. Arrangements were made to provide a substitute for the damaged vehicle. The first few carriages had to be uncoupled to allow the damaged car to oe removed half a mile down the yards. The train was 1 re-assembled with the addition of another carriage, and finally departed at 7.53 p.m.
